Miracle Tree's Blog - Celebrating International Women’s Day

It’s the way forward to achieving gender equality and a sustainable future

What is International Women’s Day?

Celebrated annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day is dedicated to commemorating the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women. It has been observed for well over a century. It aims to advance gender parity and reflects on the role of women as leaders to create a more equal world.

Why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

From running campaigns to making donations to female-focused charity, many activities are witnessed worldwide to celebrate the achievements of women and to promote gender equality. There are, however, three central beliefs that guide the purpose and mark the importance of International Women’s Day.

We'd like to highlight the following reason.

  1. Studies show that we are 100 years away from achieving gender equality. To get there, we need to amplify the voices of women around the globe as much as possible. International Women’s Day is not only a global celebration but also marks a call to action for gender equality.
  2. It provides an opportunity to identify and celebrate the wonderful achievements of women. This appreciation allows people to recognize the role of women and their contribution to society. It also generates awareness that women will not be marginalized and discriminated against. This affects positive changes and helps forge equality.
  3. 2022’s International Women’s Day theme is #BreakTheBias. The campaign aims to remove bias, stereotypes and discrimination while promoting a world that is diverse, inclusive and equitable. Collectively breaking the bias in communities, workplaces, schools and universities promote greater equality.

Increasing empowerment of women through moringa

The moringa plant is native to South Asia and has been extensively used for its medicinal properties and massive health benefits. It is a whole food naturally abundant in vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids. A small serving of this nutrient-rich superfood contains seven times more vitamin C than an orange, 17 times more calcium than milk and nine times more protein than yogurt. It also contains 25 times more iron levels than spinach.

Miracle Tree is the only vertically-integrated brand in the market with a direct source. Our moringa is grown organically on our family-owned plantations in Sri Lanka. Each tea is crafted with a conscience for the environment and the local communities. We follow sustainable agricultural practices and work with independent farmers from all over the world, including women. Our goal is to ensure a positive impact on their social well-being and communities. This helps the independent women farmers to achieve sustainable economic growth, better nutrition security and education access.

In an effort to achieve gender parity and women empowerment, we create and support programs that benefit all our farmers and workers. We also work on a bought-leaf basis with independent farmers from Sri Lanka, where 70% of the purchase goes directly to them. Furthermore, ensuring fair treatment of workers and better working and living conditions allows for overall improved quality of life for women, their families and communities. We have also made it a top priority to source exclusively from suppliers who ethically support their workers. We believe that providing our workers access to decent living and better livelihoods is crucial for reducing poverty, forging greater gender equality and fulfilling the rights of women. This International Women’s Day, we are encouraging everyone to #BreakTheBias and support the rights of women for a more equitable and sustainable future.
