The best thing about moringa recipes is that you can enjoy a delicious meal while also reaping the immense benefits of this wholesome plant. Moreover, you would want to enjoy the holiday by actually spending time with your friends and family soaking in the outdoors, rather than spending all of your time perfecting complicated recipes. Moringa recipes are simple, healthy and incredibly tasty so you can enjoy Memorial Day eating without the hassle. So, let’s look at a few summery moringa recipes to make your Memorial Day cookout a hit.

Apple, Rosemary and Moringa Gin Cooler

No Memorial Day cookout is complete without a refreshing summer beverage. This apple, rosemary and moringa gin cooler is perfect for the occasion. What’s more? It’s a celebratory cocktail that has all of the health benefits of the miracle tree, moringa. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of moringa powder
  • 3 green apples (juiced)
  • 3 tablespoons of gin of choice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • Soda water
  • Ice

Directions:

There isn’t much to this except adding all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker (or closed container) and shaking it. Serve chilled over ice with a sprig of rosemary and a couple of slices of apple as garnish.

Herbed Irish Potatoes with Moringa

This is a savory and delightful appetizer that works great as a finger-food. As mentioned, moringa recipes call for very little effort but with maximum health and taste.

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 medium-sized cubed potatoes
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon moringa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sage (dried)
  • ¼ teaspoon rosemary (dried)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Fresh parsley chopped

Directions:

  • Wash and set aside potatoes in a large mixing bowl.
  • Put a skillet on low heat and drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil into the skillet.
  • Mix the dry herbs and moringa powder together.
  • In the large mixing bowl, toss the herb mix, potatoes and 1 tablespoon of olive oil until the potatoes are coated. Adjust your olive oil measurements as required.
  • Transfer potato and herb mixture into the skillet and cook on low heat, covered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Continue to cook uncovered on medium/high heat for about 15 minutes, stirring often so the potatoes brown on all sides.
  • As soon as the spices begin hydrating and the potatoes turn golden brown, add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot and garnish with loosely chopped fresh parsley.

Spicy Moringa Burgers

Nothing screams Memorial Day more than juicy burgers and this moringa recipe is a perfect concoction of a burger, minus the grease! Try out this new version of a burger this holiday weekend and you won’t find yourself going back to regular burgers. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 tin of black beans
  • Half a carrot grated
  • Half a green pepper chopped finely
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoon moringa powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs

Directions:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and oil a medium sized baking tray. Let it heat up slightly then add the black beans.
  • After a few minutes when the beans begin to soften, mash them with a potato masher until they form a paste like texture. Leave this mixture aside in a large bowl.
  • Combine the carrot and chopped pepper with the black bean mixture.
  • In a separate bowl add the remaining ingredients (apart from the breadcrumbs and flour) and mix until all lumps are removed.
  • Add this sauce-like mixture to your vegetables and combine with plain flour.
  • Mould your burger mixture into the shape of a patty, approximately just under an inch in thickness and coat them entirely in bread crumbs.
  • Place on the greased tray and leave in the oven for 15 minutes, flipping mid way.
  • Compile your burger in the traditional manner with extra cheese (or nutritional yeast) on top and serve with fries.

Key Lime Pie with Moringa

Another great option of cooking moringa recipes is their ability to mould into any traditional or classic menu item. A key lime pie is an ideal summer dessert recipe that hits all the right notes. Try this alternate variation with moringa for an additional health kick.

Ingredients:

 For the crust:

  • 2 cups brazil nuts/pecans/cashew
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1 cup medjool dates

For the filling:

  • 2 teaspoons moringa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups cashews (soaked for 2 hours or overnight)
  • 1 avocado
  • 3 limes (juiced)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup canned coconut cream
  • 1/3 cup raw honey/maple syrup/agave

Directions:

For the crust:

  • Put the nuts into a food processor and process until a fine textured crumb consistency is attained. Then add the other ingredients in and process until it forms a fudgy dough.
  • Pour the contents into the bottom of a spring-form cake pan or for mini versions divide into miniature tart cases and press down until the entire bottom is covered.

For the filling:

  • Place everything for the filling in the blender and blend until smooth.
  • Pour the filling onto the crust and then refrigerate.
  • Freeze for a couple of hours before taking it out of the freezer, allow it to thaw for 10-15 minutes and enjoy!
